5:30am- my alarm goes off and i sit there wondering y it was going off. then i realized omg i has campus park today gotta go get rdy. so i rush off and grab everything for this opening ceremony that i have to subsitute for a girl who got hurt a couple weeks back. so i get to the barn, waiting for other ppl to get there, we fed the drafts and then we started to get rdy caz we had to be out of there around 9:15. we all gave the horses bubble baths the day b4 so they werent too bad. just a couple spots here and there. we groom them up, and then leave them tied up and then grab the saddles and pads, start loading up trailer. course belle, the belgium i was on, has to have the heaviest freaken saddle on earth, on the top rack, and so i grab that, and saddle pads,... half way to trailer and i fall. bang up my knees a bit, and got a nice lil bruise on leg, ok fine w/e. so then we finish loading up the trailer and we had an hr and 15mins left b4 we had to leave. so i stand out near the colt barn paddock and watch Arizona, Stardusts foal, when i hear tina on the other side yelling out to everyone that Felicia was having her foal in the field. im like omgz sweet! *runs down the hill, got to field, * and then... my heart just dropped. Felicia was red bagging. for those who dont no what that is... its when the placenta comes out b4 the foal, and thats not good at all caz that means that it has disconnected from the foal, and the foal is now breathing, but because its still inside, its breathing in all the fluids. thus we could loose the foal. so i grab the fence and open it up for tina and then connie, a volunter who brought her truck w/ more peeps and stuff we needed. and we get in there, we had felicia up and walking the best we could, tina got the glove on, and she went down, along w/ 2 others, i hold down felicias back legs, while someone sits on her neck and tina had to rip the bag open and help pull the foal out. when we got it out, it looked dead, but it started to wink and asperate, which means that there was fluids in his lungs. so rian and erin grabbed his top half and held him upside down to drain the lungs, i grabbed his back legs so that if he kicked it would be as bad and just to kinda keep him in place caz he was heavy. thank god i didnt change into my chaps caz i got blood on my shirt, all down both of my arms, and some on my boot. couldnt tell if anything was on my pants caz they were black and all..
so.. after we got most of the crap out of its lungs we set him down, and yes it is a colt. and he is a red roan. he passed his maconium, which is basically his first poop, and it was solid-good thing!! anywhos. we managed to wash her teats and all of the campus park ppl were there, but i was the only one in the broodmare class, but they all helped out w/ the baby in some way. but i had to take mikey and pepper back up to the barn and felicias placenta did pass eventually which we were worried about. but we got back up to the barn and finished cleaning stalls and a bit later, they brought the baby up in the back of the truck and led felicia up and then once they were both in the stall, tina had said, ok campus park ppl, lets go! loaded up the horses, and we were off on the road. only 15mins late from when we wanted to leave. good thing it was only half an hr away lol.
so we get to the place, unloaded horses, groomed, saddled and then left them tied up and ate lunch. went back, dressed up and then mounted up and got ready to start the opening. we all did so good and after they cut the ribbon, tina had told everyone about what happened this morning briefly and everyone clapped. i felt so proud and good about myself. so then we were off on the nice... muddy and wet trail... those horses were beautiful b4 we headed on the trail... when we finished, after 2hrs and 15mins... they were oh so beautiful and caked in mud :3......---3--- all that hard work.....alll gone.... withing minutes.... XDDDD but it was still awesome. the ride was great, and the scenery was awesome. we rode all around this lake and i would have had lots of pics but uh... >>;; my cameras memory card was full XD i was like noooes!! curse u broodmare!!! lol
so when we got back, we unloaded everything and all that, and i helped out take foals down, and we checked on the new foal. he was doing better, nursing, but he had gotten diarrea. which he still has, but its not bloody so thats a good thing. and he does have a name. Parker. in honor of the campus park class that was there to help out. he is so cute and a very beautiful color. right now we are keeping an eye out on him and he is doing fine. but for now, we have all of our babies!!!
